So this isn't a new idea, but rather a completed project. I posted this on the facebook page, but some people don't have facebook, and posts get easily overlooked/lost in the shuffle on there so I'm reposting this here. I wrote an instructable to show how to start your car from your cell phone in a step by step guide. I've been thinking of more and more amazing uses for this GSM relay device...like wiring one of the relays inline with the Fuel Pump circuitry...send your car a text message and the engine cuts itself off.

I have no idea, weren't they doing some type of accelerometer crash detection or somthing? or was that someone else...

nope they did a CMDA based car security system with a built in GPS

Are you talking about Jon Ness? He is a friend of a friend of mine. I got the idea from hackaday.com, but I contacted Jon to get some ideas. He used a bulkier CDMA system with lots of custom mods to kill the engine on command. You could do the same thing with this system as well, as it has 6 relays that are controlled be text message.
