hackspace starter inventory

Discussions on anything related to the evolving idea of Saskatoon's first "makerspace". What is a makerspace to you? What should it be called? What's the charter?

hackspace starter inventory

Post by devvyn »

Between my roommates and I there should be a few handy things to contribute. I was thinking of maintaining a running inventory of parts and tools for the group which can be shared online and updated by members.

For now, I can list some stuff off the top of my head:
  • probably at least one used computer
  • data and audio/video cables and adapters galore
  • Wii RockBand drums with broken foot pedal
  • a Wiimote
I'll update this when I have another look around.

I might be able to figure out a way to get some free/cheap gear from OTV. Maybe some salvaged parts or a discount pricing deal.

Uhm.

Rats nests of cables weighing more than I do, dating back 10-15 years.
A couple of RROD / broken XBOX 360's of various age.
A couple of broken-for-various-reasons XBOX1's of various age and condition.
Various tools / soldering kit.
A wiimote or two with broken gyro's.
A little mini-itx VIA ME1000 (~800mhz CPU) motherboard/chip combo just needing a couple of capacitors replaced.

That's off the top of my head anyways. I've got a closet full of boxes where I'm sure I could dig out more.

I also have 90% of a gsm iPad, a modded xbox1 with mod chip, a model rocket kit and I'm willing to let people use my Canon T1i, but let's not count that as official inventory

Depending on what people are interested in, I can loan some/all of the following:

* old computer
* variable temp soldering station
* most hand tools you might need
* CNC router
* cordless drill
* drill press
* Woodworking power tools. These can't live at the space, but I can bring them or give access to my garage as needed:
- table saw (not movable, too big)
- compound mitre saw (barely movable)
- jigsaw
- router/table
- others (biscuit joiner, sander, etc)

In terms of Tools, there's not much that I can offer, but at the University the shop has some surplus equipment, wires, various other devices to tinker with
