The screen is about 163 inches diagonally I believe, about 150 wide, 66 inches tall? Those are fairly rough estimates, but it is a true 2.21:1 screen. The white portion is photographers paper for backdrops and such. The only reason I didn't do a taller screen (aside from the room not being wide enough) was that the rolls only came at about 72 inches tall. The wood is cedar I think, as it needs to be a hard wood that won't flex. The wood was substantial more expensive than I expected. I used black velvet to wrap around the wooden frame and stapled it on the back. Again, a lot more expensive than I was led to believe

I think all in all it cost me around $175 to make? I should still have paper left over if anyone wants to toss me a few bucks for it. I also have the harmony 900.
My furniture is horrendous as I spent most of my cash upon buying the place on the projector and new sound system

haha. Whether you want to be 2.21:1 is up to you, but the AE4000 makes it exceedingly easy to do. The only problem is that a lot of movies don't come in that format anymore, and you won't be playing games in that format either. Sometimes I wish I had a screen that was taller and not as wide so that it would be perfect for games, but 2.21:1 is an amazing experience for the cinematic side of things.
Is your former co-worker possibly named Mike? Haha, he's the only one I know who has an AE3000.
I bought mine from the US for $2000, and only paid $40 shipping. However, panasonic prohibits this, and most companies won't do this. You have to email them directly and beg quite a bit. The price at visions was pretty insane awhile ago ($3000) but it also came with an extra bulb, which is close to $400 in value. I've seen it sell for $2700 before, which is more reasonable (but then you have to add in GST and PST, so I'd go buy it in Alberta if I were you).
