Pledge Drive: 3D Printer

Discussions on anything related to the evolving idea of Saskatoon's first "makerspace". What is a makerspace to you? What should it be called? What's the charter?

I have a tablet stand that was printed on a cubify at Google IO last year. Quality is pretty good, resolution is OK, but they were supposed to mail me a little insert for the stand with my handle printed on it AND IT NEVER CAME so I've been cursing them ever since. :P

I'll add them to the list. Also, when I put the vote up I'll be sure to include the specs of each.

Is "the Vision" actually for sale? The kickstarter is over and I couldn't find a site where they're actually being sold. I've left it off the list for now.

The vision looks like a Mendel variant.

Added images and more details to first post. If any of my specs or wrong or if anyone would like to add anything, let me know.

Thanks John. I've updated the totals in each thread.

We're also going to need to buy some filament to get us started, so even though it currently looks like we'll be getting the Solidoodle we'll need a bit more than the $800 it costs to cover shipping & filament.

What's the budget looking like? How much filament are you planning on ordering?

apollo, I've added you to the "Members" group so you can see the poll we have going on in another forum. We've currently got about $922 earmarked for the printer ($522 cash + $400 in pledges). From the looks of the poll, we'll almost certainly be getting a Solidoodle 3 and the $922 will basically cover that + shipping. We haven't really discussed how much filament we'll be ordering but probably at least a couple of spools - we'll be making those decisions at Tuesday's meeting. The poll thread is here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=459
