UV EPROM eraser and programmer

Post by JamesCooper »

Hey all,

Does anybody have a UV EPROM eraser and/or programmer I could borrow for a few days?

I'm fixing up an arcade machine for a friend and I purchased an NBA Hangtime board for it. After rewiring it all and getting it fired up, the board runs through the diagnostics and complains that some of the ROM chips are bad. No surprise; a few of the EPROMs had their opaque labels removed. I can get the ROM images to reprogram the chips, but I don't have an eraser or a programmer.

If anybody could lend a hand, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,
James Cooper

If you're putting the original ROMs, why would they need erasing?

@sax: Great! Now I just need to find a programmer. I'll wait until I get the programmer before bugging you for the eraser.

@nathan: I'm just reprogramming the original EPROMs with ROM images that I have; I'm not replacing the ROM chips themselves. It's possible that the image files aren't exactly the same as what was on the chips originally (could be a different revision), so I'm going to erase them first.
