Physical space suggestions

Discussions on anything related to the evolving idea of Saskatoon's first "makerspace". What is a makerspace to you? What should it be called? What's the charter?

I did a bit of research on these and these are my findings:

418 46th St - 1200sqft 24x50 10/sqft with 3.8 occ costs = $1380/month

519 48th St - 15000sqft - 11/sq, 3.75 occ cost = $18437.50/month

411B 48th St - 4000sqft - 2.85 occ, 9/sqft = $3950/month

1-510 48th St – 3500sqft – 2.95 occ 10/sq = $3777/month

2505 Faithfull Ave – 1260sqft – 15.5/sq occ 3.30 = $1974/month

827 50th St – leased

104-2750 Faithfull Ave - 2706sqft – waiting for a call

813 51st – 4900sqft – 8/sq 2 /occ = $4083/month

811 51st - 2800sqft – 12/sq 3.50/occ = $3617/month

None of the spaces are subdividable unfortunately.

In my opinion, if we grow considerably we could move to these spaces, but they are not suitable as a starter space.

Wow you got through those quick!

What are the costs for the 220, for comparison?

We discussed $700, we are responsible for power. We would have ~1000sqft. I will have more concrete answers tomorrow when I meet with Curtis.

Wow, that is much cheaper. At least we have a good idea what different sizes/locations cost now. I think we are just waiting to hear about that furniture place from Albert now? Unless there were other suggestions on spaces?

Is the 15000 square feet a typo? :D

I think 220 sounds like our best bet, but 46th street might be comparable if it has better options (larger doors, better ventilation, more freedom to be loud and dirty).

Searching about on colliers found me http://www.loopnet.com/Attachments/D/1/ ... 8F5EE3.pdf

This is pretty similar to the above properties, though

http://www.colliersmn.com/prod/cclod.ns ... Avenue.pdf would be perfect if we had 2-3x our current membership.

$1381 per month for the one listed by rsilk...not bad considering it has bay doors, is %20 larger, and has its own washroom and no other concerns regarding tenants.

I think we really need to realize and remember that at this point, $800 is the very max. If someone offered us the perfect space that was suited to our every need for $900 we simply could not even seriously consider it. We are entering a leasehold situation, and we have a very real obligation to fulfill whatever lease we take. At $800 we would have just enough to also cover our power and Internet, with just about nothing for capex. Down the road we can probably look at bigger and better spaces, but right now these are the restrictions we have to go by.

I completely agree with Paul here, btw. Mostly I wanted to see if anything else was out there. There really isn't (at least, nothing listed by the major commercial agents in town - I checked every property they had listed).
