Hey everyone,
The space finding committee is working hard trying to come up with options for a space, and we'd love your input. I'll put in a few guidelines and then suggest away!
Absolutely needs to happen:
- Rent must be $700/mo or under including occupancy costs
- Space must be bigger than 500 sqft (at a bare MINIMUM)
Wants:
- Bus route access
- 220 power
- 1000sqft +
Maybe one day:
- Separate ventilated room
- Bay door
Physical space suggestions
Re: Physical space suggestions
I'd say 220 is a (very?) nice to have, we can get by with 110 though.Another want would be a lack of restrictions on noise, would be nice to use tools whenever, but not a neccesity.

Unless we get more members
Re: Physical space suggestions
or raise fees, but I think some people find $50 to be the upper limit of what they're willing to contribute monthly.DigitalOSH wrote:Unless we get more members

Re: Physical space suggestions
I think we can take a bit of a risk of taking a space that may be 200 - 300$ more per month than what we can afford with the assumption we will gain a few more members? Or are we not planning on being that aggressive? Our "reserve fund" if you want to call it that should cover us for a short time I believe.
Re: Physical space suggestions
I would hope that we don't burn all our income on the space though, having some money to put towards capex purchases would be nice, supplies, projects in the space, etc.

Re: Physical space suggestions
I drove around the north industrial streets this morning and have some places for the committee to check out.
418 46th St (Colliers 664-4433) - this is the Little Bozo diner, but it looked like there is a bay door.
1-510 48th St (ICR 933-2929)
519 48th St (Colliers 664-4433)
411B 48th St (Colliers 664-4433)
2505 Faithfull Ave (ICR 933-2929)
104-2750 Faithfull Ave (Concorde 668-3004) - 2706sqft - Albert, this is the Sundance Spas we used to work next to.
827 50th St (ICR 933-2929) - there was no building number but I think 827 is right. it's next to Shear Fabrication.
51st St next across from A&W (Remax, Jeff Howsam 934-0909)
And there are even more than that!
I personally think this area would serve our group better than downtown because it is close to many useful fabrication shops and businesses. As an example, Lasercut is nearby. They are a small shop (compared to Siemens Laserworks which is also nearby) that is staffed by cool people who get what we do. I believe we could get reduced rates from them just by being friendly. (I do already, but I'm saying we all could as a group.) I would like to expand the list of shops that give me/us reduced rates, and I think it's easiest if we locate nearby. These are just my thoughts, and I would like to hear what everyone else thinks.
