Hey hey,

Just want to show people a couple photos of things I've cut out so far on the laser cutter at Techworks. I'd like to thank Rylan and the other good folks on the Peachy Printer team for providing us with such a cool tool to use.

So, these are a couple of projects I've completed with the laser.

Project 1 - Radius Gauges

It is inevitable in the field of drafting that you will be asked to recreate a part that has been made before. Often times a design will be built on spec, never thought to be made again so no record of its design is ever written down. Of course the next customer wants 100 by next Thursday. A typical part can be dimensioned with two fairly common tools, a measuring tape and a digital caliper ($20 Princess Auto special is sufficient for 95% of cases). The one thing a person can't measure accurately with these tools are radius's (depending on the case, don't get all picky). A set of radius gauges can come in very handy for measuring the inside, and outside radius of a bend or curved section of a part. The set I created is 8x 3mm clear acrylic with an overall dimension of 2" x 4". There is a hole in the top so that they can be bolted together for storage. There is an inside and outside gauge for R1/16" to R1" in 1/16" increments.

If anyone wants a set of these cut out, they are available in DXF and the laser format.

Project 2 - Nail Polish Rack

My second idea was a birthday present for a special someone. Again, this is made from a 3mm acrylic. It can hold approximately 50 bottles of nail polish. It is built with interlocking tabs that provide easy assembly. It goes together very well with a thin CA glue because the tab clearance is very small (0.005" of slop on either side of the slot). The laser does a pretty damn good job of keeping those tolerances. I didn't end up measuring them, but all the parts fit very well.
