project log - Thermostat

Time to finally start building something for myself in the space! I recently finished up installing a new central air conditioner in my house, and I hate my current programable thermostat (does anyone try to use these things before they ship them out? not exactly user friendly). So, I figured i'd build my own thermostat.
Plan is to build it with an arduino uno for now, and later make a custom PCB and just use an AVR without the arduino bootloader. I'd like to be able to access the controls online, and log inside and outside temperature, fan speeds (I have a variable speed DC fan in my furnace) and fan/furnace/AC run times via SNMP, and present the data using CACTI / MRTG.
