Same as the Mythbusters shop. I would use it to make commercials for $ and experiments for fun and SCIENCE!

For a topic I would chose something like: Using microcontrollers and other hackable devices to interact with online services.

Get out some good press on the space, i would run phys 30 demos (simple machines, simple circuits etc) perhaps do a workshop for them so they can actually try building a circuit etc.
possibly a solder camp or practical building sessions for electronics enthusiasts. kinda like an electronics bootcamp. i know by 2nd year CME/EE/EP we know theory but have never solder, or know stuff like: if you have input noise from your power supply, double cap to ground, or using a flyback diode on a relay circuit etc. run these camps kinda like unix bootcamp done by the CSSS, but in partnership with the IEEE or the college of Engineering and SIAST.

if i were to run a workshop outside of that, i would probably do microprocessor programming, debugging micro's (using ICD, or without)

For the January 11th meeting we want to have a mini workshop. There have already been some ideas posted in this thread but let's hear some more! Even small ones, and maybe we'll have a few people talk.

I think even a cool simple one regarding soldering, or advanced soldering would be very interesting for most people. Its accessible (i.e. cheap to get equipment), useful, and its hands on. It could cover topics like electronics soldering (how to make sure you don't melt your hardware) and precise soldering on small surfaces (i.e. strip boards) to larger projects such as plumping (copper pipe soldering) for homes.

I'm rather new to soldering, and although I find it easy now, I'm not likely the best person to host such a workshop.

Also note with soldering that it seems a decent amount of people know to solder, but they don't know it *well*. There's a lot of tips and tricks that most people aren't aware of. Certain tools can make a job a million times easier (solder sucker, etc.). Thats one area where I'm deficient (I can solder, but I suck at desoldering haha).
