Titanium, yes. Carbon fiber, no (because it is non-conductive). The CF would either have to be cut to shape with a router or with water jet.

You should try the CF on goliath

CF is really good at dulling bits. And it's itchy (and possibly carcinogenic). I avoid routering and drilling it as much as possible.

Good to know about the titanium though. If you are looking for some test pieces to run, I could get some dxfs together and give you the material.

I'll be production ready before taking on any jobs, most likely beginning in early to mid-February. What is the thickness of the TI you want cut? If you supply the material I can give you a price for the cutting (based on cut time and # of pierces), shouldn't be a problem.

Waterjet is ideal for CF, however if you are doing small qty parts the cost in bits and using Goliath may be quite small.

Cut these two pieces out on the plasma table last night to get my feet wet. A bit over 9" tall, 0.125" 6061-T6 (I had to anneal the base material so I could bend it without cracking), plug welded together and all the welds were ground flush. An early Valentines Day present for my wife.



I'm going to dab some paint in the engraved section, with full sunlight it's hard to read but not that bad with indirect lighting. I was also using a 65A nozzle with the plasma running at full power...not ideal for such thin aluminum. Haha. But I have some 45A and some FineCut consumeables on order so I can cut thin material with a minimal kerf and with a cleaner edge.

Still have some tweaking to get it to cut precise mechanical parts, but it's getting there.

The base was glass grit blasted and the silhouette was orbital sanded.

I've got quite few jobs lined up, so I should be cutting some 1/2" MS flanges soon!
