I need a cheap computer/motherboard+CPU for work room. My current PC for this purpose is having issues, North Bridge is proving to be unreliable.
Preference is for something with at least sata, I don't want to be scrounging for endlessly failing IDE drives. Doesn't need much power, will be running kde or xdm just needs to get online and drive my reprap.
If you have something that you no longer use but is fairly reliable let me know.

Re: Buying: Used Computer/Motherboard+CPU
I have a couple old machines sitting around gathering dust. I think they are both Athlon XP 1800s with onboard video -- very basic machines. I can't remember if they are IDE or SATA, but all the parts are good. I just need to wipe the hard drive before I give it to you.

James, let me know what you have and what you want for them (wishfully hoping "give" means free).
Also sounds like my room mate might be upgrading. Her current PC is as new as my main PC, so if all else fails I will buy that off of her.

tim, I've got a 64-bit AMD CPU and stuff you can have I'm pretty sure. I should also be able to scrounge up a few GB of RAM, a hard drive, PSU and case, I've got lots of stuff around, only thing I might be short on is graphics cards, and if I have one, it will be something rather low-end.
Re: Buying: Used Computer/Motherboard+CPU
Thanks Bergo. Same as I said to James, get me a quick parts list and what if anything you want for stuff. Most important thing I am looking for is MB, CPU, and memory.
I have: case, PS, SATA HDs and 3 used ATI graphics cards. That said I will take a look at whatever people are looking to get rid of and try to make the best/most-stable PC possible.

Well I am posting this from my workbench. So don't really need these anymore. I ended up with an extra PS, 802.11n card and video cards. We should bring the extra stuff down to the space and assemble a couple PCs for random projects for the space.
